Welcome.
Here’s something you should know:
I am no good at introductions.
Keep that in mind as I extend my hand with an offer of readership. Not friendship, mind you; I would never introduce a friend into my life in such a callous arena as this, nor do I think it’s even ethical to make such presumptions of relative strangers.
Or strange relatives.
Sometimes I think I have too many friends. Such a wonderful problem to have, I’m told, but people with friends surely have serious problems, too. I can’t possibly spend as much time and energy as is warranted, and so I feel not as a success to some, but a failure to all.
Happy day!
Other things you should know:
I am leaving for Europe in two days. I don’t have a plan. I am bringing my brand new shiny think-box. I will be making a half-assed attempt at my own version of Gonzo, my latest obsession. Of course, there will likely be less foul play, hard drugs, bad vibes, black market purchases, slimy politicians, firearms, mint juleps, hookers, and cheeseburgers involved – all of which are bare essentials of the ethos.
Say what you will about Raoul Duke and Gonzo – at least it’s an ethos.
This is Static in the Cities. I have stolen the name of this website from a song that goes like this:
“Are we anything except everything we never wanted to be?
There is no one left to pray for us.”
I don’t like the song because of the words.
Peace, love, and bananas,
TJH

Tyler,
In your description of 'Gonzo essentials' you forgot to include half a dozen grapefruits and a Bowie knife.
